Picking a server is like choosing which community you want to be a part of in this MMO RPG.

Lord of the Rings Online currently hosts 10 public servers, three VIP servers, and one public test server.

There are additional private servers not mentioned in this guide, but those are typically not accessible and may even require a Non-Disclosure Agreement to play.

Public Server List:

  • Arkenstone [US]

  • Belegaer [EU-DE-RP]

  • Brandywine [US]

  • Crickhollow [US]

  • Evernight [EU]

  • Gladden [US]

  • Gwaihir [EU-DE]

  • Landroval [US-RE]

  • Laurelin [EU-EN-RP]

  • Sirannon [FR]

  • Treebeard - Legendary Server

  • Angmar - Legendary Server

  • Mordor [EU] - Legendary Server

US - United States server

RE - Role-play encouraged server

EU - European server

RP - Role-playing server

DE - German server

FR - French server

Note: Almost all servers, even EU servers, are currently located in the United States. This can affect players’ ping or even cause lag during gameplay.

The only exception to this rule is the Mordor Legendary Server, that is an EU-based server, meaning it is located in the EU.

What is a VIP or Legendary server?

These servers are available only to active LOTRO VIP members. These servers also typically have a maximum level cap and will routinely increase the level cap by releasing previous expansion content.

Example: Current max level on a legendary server may be level 50 with the Angmar story quest packs available. Then the Mines of Moria expansion will be released, increasing the level cap to 50 on the server in a certain period of time.

What is the Bullroarer server?

Bullroarer is a private testing server that allows players to test out updates before they officially go live.

Which server should I choose?

Here are some questions to ask yourself before deciding:

  • Do you want to heavily focus on PVP or any form of group content during your playthrough?

  • Which servers are your friends on? Maybe you should join them for group activities.

  • Do you want to go on a more community event-based server?

  • Would you like to be on a high or low populated server?

If you need recommendations on which servers to pick based on these questions, watch this video to help determine which server is best for you.
